McLaren defend drivers in qualifying row

McLaren F1 CEO Martin Whitmarsh claims Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen did all they could to get out of the way of other drivers in the closing stages of qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix.

The team's drivers are under investigation by the race stewards for the way they appeared to get in the way of Nick Heidfeld and Fernando Alonso during the closing seconds of the qualifying session at Sepang.  read more »

Felipe Massa wins Bahrain Grand Prix 2008

Felipe Massa wins Bahrain GP 2008 Ferrari’s Felipe Massa silenced a lot of voices today at Bahrain by running an almost perfect race to clinch the 2008 Bahrain Grand Prix. Teammate Kimi Raikkonen was second. Lewis Hamilton finished outside the points and lost the championship lead due to it. The Pole on pole Robert Kubica was third for the BMW team. Nick Heidfeld claimed a calm fourth place behind teammate Robert Kubica. Young Heikki Kovalainen got McLaren F1 fifth place. An interesting point in the race was when Lewis Hamilton ran into the back of Fernando Alonso, it made him pit and eventually this resulted in him being out of points. Some people say Fernando brake tested Lewis Hamilton, but i really dont think it was anything like that. I have seen the videos again and again and they look highly inconclusive. Later on Lewis Hamilton was apologetic to the McLaren F1 team : “I am really disappointed and feel like I had let the team down” “You need to pick up the pieces and then deliver points. I didn’t do that.  read more »

Lewis Hamilton wins maiden home British Grand Prix

It was an eventful race, and in the end Brit Lewis Hamilton emerged victorious to claim the golden trophy. A series of goof-ups by Ferrari in terms of tyres were enough to ruin Kimi’s race. Lewis was ecstatic after the race calling it his best win in terms of the race being the toughest for him to snatch.

He thanked his family after the race:

“I want to dedicate this to my family because as you can see I’ve had some troubles over the last couple of weeks and it’s been really tough,” Hamilton said.

“But as always your family are there when you need them.”

“The last couple of weeks I’ve been flat out with working very hard, just a lot of travelling, many different things and different emotions building,” he said.

Australian Grand Prix 2008 : Lewis Hamilton on Top !

Kimi Raikkonen - Ferrari 2008 I had an exam today, so was really divided on whether to watch the Qualifying or not, but better sense prevailed and i watched it anyway. Ferrari bombed big-time with Kimi facing problems early on in his qualifying and having to settle for a dismal 16 - the topmost position in the Q1 qualifying session. Kimi’s car got stuck in the 1st session and hence could not compete further due to qualifying rules.

It was a different story for Lewis Hamilton though, his car was faster than Felipe’s Ferrari by a good margin. Robert Kubica qualified second for the BMW team while Lewis’s teammate will start right behind Lewis on the grid in the race as he qualified in third place.  read more »

Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen ensured that the front row at Monaco would be all red. Massa snatched pole position from teammate Kimi Raikkonen just near the end of the session.

Felipe Massa and Rob Smedley

Felipe Massa was pretty happy with his lap and had this to say after the race:

“I still cannot believe I’m on pole , It’s unbelievable.

“I was pushing very hard to try and learn how to drive here because every time I come here I am struggling.

“I tried to improve and learnt some tricks in some corners and I did a perfect lap, which is almost impossible in Monaco.”

Williams regrets BMW split

Sir Frank Williams, Team Principal of the Williams F1 Team, admitted that he regrets that his team has split with BMW. From 2000 to 2005, BMW supplied engines to Williams. In 2005, BMW bought Sauber and founded the BMW Sauber F1 Team. Williams switched to customer engines, first with Cosworth and then with Toyota.
